In this six minute with Doug Parr, Business Development Specialist Riverland Training & Development at Riverland Community College in Austin, MN. Bill Cullifer, WOW’s executive director ask the following questions:
* Why offer a Web developer degree program?
* WOW participated in the Riverland Community College local Web professional advisory board meeting. What were the goals of that meeting and what were some of the walk-away from your point of view?
* Serving the career bound student and the practicing professional working within enterprise level organizations looking for more intensive training seems to be a delicate balancing act for some college instructors and school programs. Can you share your thoughts on this and are they best practices for managing this process in the classroom?
* Education for Web professionals has come a long way since 1996 and the degree level program at Riverland is testament to that. Clearly, we are maturing as a profession and working with Riverland Community College and others WOW hopes to set national standards for Web professional programs that are on par with other such notable programs such as nursing. By that I mean, as a professional association we would like to see programs that require perquisites for entry, clearly defined pathways and outcomes that are mappable, stackable and portable. What strategies should WOW consider when working with community colleges across the country with the goal of incorporating these concepts in the mix?
